2015 Military Pay Charts – Officer & Enlisted Pay (1.0% Raise)

July 9, 2019 By Ryan

Military members will receive a 1.0% pay raise in 2015, which is the same pay raise military members received in 2014. This is the fifth year in a row in which military members have received a pay raise of less than 2.0%.

Military members are eligible to receive a pay raise each year, which is voted on by Congress. The raise is usually based on the Employment Cost Index (ECI), which is a measurement by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that is designed to track public sector wage growth. Even though the ECI is the standard upon which the military pay raises are based, the President can recommend a higher or lower pay raise, which needs to be approved by Congress before it becomes official.

2015 Military Pay Tables: Enlisted & Officer Pay

Military members receive two types of compensation – base pay, and allowances. Base pay is what you will see in the following military pay scales. This is determined by the member’s pay grade and time in service. These rates are the same, regardless of branch of service or career field.

Military members are also eligible to receive certain allowances, which may vary depending on their rank, where they are stationed, their military duties, and other factors. Common allowances include a food allowance (BAS), housing allowance (BAH), and special duty pay such as flight pay, sea pay, hazardous duty pay, and similar allowances.

Base pay is taxable at the state and federal level unless the military member is deployed to a tax-free combat zone. If that is the case, then special rules may apply for tax-exempt pay for officers (see footnotes below). Allowances are typically tax-exempt.

The following pay charts apply to all branches of the uniformed services, including the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Officer Corps (NOAA) and the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (USPHS).
