Lowes Military Discount – Save Big with the MyLowe’s Military Discount

November 6, 2019 By Ryan

Military discounts are a popular way to thank current and former military members for their service. Each company sets its own military discount eligibility policies, and may vary based on the organization. However, the Lowes Military Discount program is one of the most widely available, as it includes both current and former military members. Many companies only offer military discounts to current military members and retirees, since they are the individuals who have official military ID cards. But Lowe’s extends their military discount offer to all current and former military members, so long as they verify their military service through their MyLowe’s account.

Even better, Lowe’s offers this discount every single day – not just on military holidays like Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and Veterans Day.

Let’s take a look at this offer, who qualifies, and how you can start saving today with the Lowe’s Military Discount offer.

Lowe’s Military Discount – Save 10% Everyday

Lowe’s Military Discount Eligibility:

The Lowe’s military discount eligibility is open to anyone who is currently serving in, or is a veteran* of the US Air Force, US Army, US Navy, US Marine Corps, US Coast Guard, Reserves, or the National Guard, as well as their immediate family members (to include spouse and/or dependent children up to 18 years old).

Once the service member signs up for the discount program on Lowes.com, it will be linked to a MyLowe’s card that may also be used by immediate family.

*The term Veteran, in this instance, includes all individuals who are retired from the US armed forces or who have been discharged (e.g., honorable, under honorable condition, general). Individuals dishonorably discharged or for bad conduct are not eligible to receive a military discount.

How to Sign up for the Lowe’s Military Discount:

This program now requires members to sign up for the discount online with the MyLowe’s Account or in-store at the Lowe’s customer service desk.

This tutorial shows you how to verify your service online.

Lowes Military Discount Program

Step 1: Sign up for a MyLowe’s account. You will need to provide your name, phone number, and zip code. You will also have the choice to receive a physical MyLowe’s card, or link it to your phone number. I chose to use my phone number, so I don’t have to carry around another store loyalty card. I simply provide my phone number when I check out and it brings up my MyLowe’s account and provides me with the 10% military discount. Sign up here.

Step 2: Verify your military service. Lowe’s uses a trusted third party to verify eligibility status for online enrollment and may require additional documentation or proof of eligibility.

MyLowe's - Prove Military Service

According to Lowe’s, some veterans may need to complete their enrollment in-store, if they cannot verify their service online. This can happen when a long time has passed since the individual separated from the military, when they have multiple DD Form 214s, or if they had a very high-level security clearance.

Simply visit the customer service desk with a copy of your military documentation (usually a DD Form 214, but a CAC, Veterans ID Card, or state drivers license with military designation should also work) and a current photo ID. The Lowe’s customer service team should be able to hook you up then.

Can you still get the discount without the MyLowe’s account? The Lowe’s website states that you can get a military discount in the store if you do not have a MyLowe’s account. But you must have a MyLowe’s account to access the Lowe’s discount online.

Personally, I like the MyLowe’s card because it tracks all my purchases, and makes it easy to return an item (the MyLowe’s account stores your receipts, so you don’t need to keep the paper copy to make returns). It also stores things like paint color codes, so you don’t have to keep track of those things either. That makes it convenient when you need to do a touch-up and no longer have the paint can!

Where to Use the 10% Military Discount at Lowe’s

The Lowe’s military discount can be used in the store both in the store and for online purchases on the Lowe’s website.

    • In-store: At the time of purchase, simply provide your MyLowe’s card (or account number) or your phone number if linked. The discount will automatically be applied to your eligible purchases.
    • Online: Simply visit the Lowe’s website and ensure you log in to your MyLowe’s account before completing any purchases.

What Does the Lowe’s Military Discount Cover?

The Lowe’s military discount policy states the discount is for personal use only, and not for commercial services. They do reserve the right to change or cancel the program at any time, as well as retain the right to cancel a member’s enrollment if there is evidence of misuse. In other words – please use the program as it is intended – as a thank you for your service. Not as a way to enhance your business or hook up your second cousin’s best friend with your discount.

There are a few additional limitations – the discount doesn’t cover previous sales, the purchase of gift cards, or services such as product installations. It also cannot be combined with some special offers, coupons, discounts, extended protection plans, or other promotions.

I’ve also heard from some other folks that certain commodities are excluded, such as lumber or other items where the margins are razor-thin.

Now that we’ve got the legal mumbo-jumbo out of the way, I’d like to say that I’ve been using the 10% military discount at Lowe’s for years now and I’ve almost never had any issues. I’ve had it apply to regular sale items, even though certain sales were mentioned above as being excluded from the discount.
